YUQI WANG
About YUQI WANG
Yuqi Wang (b. 2000, Shanghai) is an artist and filmmaker based in London. Working across installation, moving image, photography, robotics and performance, she examines what it means to choose when the self making the choice has already been shaped by genes, memory, belief and code.
Wang’s method is to build a system and submit to it. She uses herself as material, sets the initial conditions and lets the mechanism run. Her systems range from I Ching divination to predictive algorithms, from a humanoid machine to the archetypal figures she embodies on camera. The work turns on the moment a system falters, when prediction stops holding and the choice falls to whoever is inside it.
