I am who I am; I am no one; I am anyone.

Do I actually want what 'I' wanted?

I AM WHO I AM; I AM NO ONE; I AM ANYONE. by Yuqi Wang

I am who I am; I am no one; I am anyone is a moving image work that situates the subject within a sterile, clinical environment resembling an operating room. Medicines, prosthetic fragments and artificial body parts are scattered throughout the space, forming a setting where life, technology and simulation collapse into a single, ambiguous system.

The work investigates how technological extensions of the human body reshape subjectivity and perception. Rather than presenting technology as a tool or enhancement, it frames it as a derivative structure that feeds back into the human psyche, generating states of uncertainty, fragmentation and dislocation. The question of ‘free thinking’ is approached not as autonomy, but as something entangled with systems that precondition choice, identity and agency.

Through a combination of performance, sculptural elements and sound, the work constructs a field where the self becomes unstable and interchangeable. Identity oscillates between presence and absence, singularity and replaceability. In this space, the subject is no longer fixed, but continuously reconfigured, prompting the viewer to consider where the ‘I’ persists when certainty, embodiment and authorship begin to dissolve.
